Sarà pure solo un "sequel di Superman" (ma fino a tre mesi fa fare un film di Superman era un azzardo miliardario e perdente... ora ci si passa su come niente dando tutto per scontato); il fatto è che metterci dentro Batman è una cosa rischiosissima, ambiziosissima: una roba mai fatta prima, inaudita e rivoluzionaria. Basilare. Non sono ammessi errori. "Santo subito" Zack Snyder anche solo per il coraggio - come sempre: ZS è l'autore di cinema più coraggioso della storia. Più io guardo spezzoni e filmati di Ben Affleck, più lo trovo perfetto. Fisicamente e mentalmente. Vogliamo mettere nano Keaton, freezer Kilmer, pesce lesso Clooney, botolo Bale?! Ma da quale Bat-caverna veniamo, ma di cosa stiamo parlando? Affleck è 1 metro e 92 di fisicità sfacciata, capace di sfumature di grigio e nero da brividi; sarà il ruolo della sua vita! Inoltre è anche fan riconosciuto di fumetti di Supereroi. Questo 41enne fan che fa Batman realizza il suo sogno! Ben è uno di noi - chiedetelo all'icona dei geek Kevin Smith!
Si tratta di un ottimo attore, eclettico, dal curriculum impressionante; non se ne può discutere da parte di amanti del cinema. Riguardatelo 26enne in Will Hunting; o la super-Coppa Volpi a Venezia per Hollywoodland (2006)! In ogni caso, anche l'ultimo commediante di lingua inglese piscia in testa a qualsiasi attore mondiale. La recitazione è tutto, in un film: nell’ultimo, oscarizzato Argo il regista Affleck è forse più bravo come interprete… dimesso, sotto e sopra le righe, nervoso, incazzoso, deciso = Batman!
Addirittura si blatera, nella stampa mainstream, che "viene criticata dai fans (...) la sua scelta come Batman perché attore troppo cerebrale e impegnato"... barzellette. Batman è cerebrale e impegnato. O consideriamo ancora Batman una robetta come il telefilm degli anni '60?! Tra i nerd, poi, siamo a livelli di inconcepibile autolesionismo: avere un tale nome per lanciare il film di Superman/Batman è solo manna.
Ben era il primo assoluto della lista Warner/DC, ci vanno dietro da anni, e infatti ora per L'Uomo d'Acciaio 2 abbiamo un dream team cine-supereroistico. Se Bats fosse stato alle prime armi (come Supes nell'Uomo d'Acciaio) darlo in mano a un giovinastro da soap opera o a uno sconosciuto bodybuilder era una mossa perdente; così invece si impiega una star adulta riconosciuta, appassionata e carismatica per un ruolo maturo, centrale, decisivo. Non si poteva fare altro. Nemmeno un ottimo "esordiente" 40enne, come Richard Armitage o Jon Hamm o Gerard Butler, non avrebbe retto sulle spalle un tale peso!
La scelta di Affleck come Batman è geniale sia artisticamente che commercialmente. Non si discute. Sennò torniamo pure a parlare della Torcia Umana come Cap! O di Jessica Alba come la Donna Invisibile. O di una faccia da culo come l'Uomo Ragno. O di tre attori in sequenza e diversissimi che fanno Hulk. Potrei andare avanti per ore. Se c'è una cosa in cui Zack Snyder è oggettivamente forte - e non ce n'è solo una per me - è proprio il casting. Casteggiare una star popolarissima (per vari, interessanti motivi) come Ben Affleck nel ruolo di un Batman 41enne è un colpo assoluto di genio, straordinario, emozionante, pazzesco. Siamo seri.
Se poi la moda è sparare su Zack, nessuna novità. Nessuna novità nemmeno nel fatto che non ci sto per partito preso.
Ben Affleck? Stiamo parlando di un Padrone di Hollywood, di un autore completo, celebrato e onnipotente. Che si mette al servizio dei fumetti di Batman. Dovremmo essere al settimo cielo... Su Argo scrissi: “Un po' finta e imbalsamata la parte hollywoodiana, ma la parte iraniana era difficile ed è quasi perfetta”. In Iran c'era il buon Ben assoluto protagonista, che aveva a che fare con l'ottusità dei semplici cittadini sperduti e sconfitti dal Male; e che doveva guidarli alla salvezza con coraggio, decisione e leadership. Usando solo il suo arruffato carisma e la sua conoscenza superiore, anche il suo fascino, conferendo sicurezza. Portandoli da solo verso una meta impossibile, ma che lui, da solo, doveva far apparire all'uomo comune come a portata di mano. Questo è Batman. Perfetto. Oscar.

Maybe it's only the “Superman sequel” (but three months ago a Superman movie was a lost billionaire gamble... now it’s just nothing, a sort of normal production); the fact is that putting the Batman inside this film is real risky business, overambitious: something never done before, never heard about and revolutionary. Basic. No mistake is allowed. Please, a monument for Zack Snyder’s bravery – his first quality: ZS is the bravest filmmaker in cinema history.
The more I see trailers and clips about Ben Affleck, the more I think he is physically and mentally perfect for the part. Do you remember dwarf Keaton, freezer Kilmer, blankly Clooney, small and snarly Bale?! What about our Bat-origins, what are we talking about? Affleck is 6.3 feet of shameless strength, he is able to deliver shivering grey/black shades; this will be his life-role! Moreover, he’s an admitted superheroes comics fan. This 41 years old fan becomes Batman and fulfills his life-dream! Ben is one of us - ask to geek-icon Kevin Smith!
We’re talking about a good, versatile actor, his filmography is impressive; he can’t be an issue for cinemagoers. Look back at him, 26 years old in Will Hunting; or the super-Volpi Cup at Venice for Hollywoodland (2006)! Anyway, even the last English-speaking comedian easily beats any global thesp. About cinema, acting is everything: in the last celebrated Argo, director Affleck is maybe overshadowed by his own interpretation… humble, down and over the top, edgy, grumpy, driven = Batman!
The mainsteam press blabs that "his choice as Batman is refused by fans (...) because he is too sophisticated and politically active"... nonsense. Batman is a sophisticated and politically active character. Or are we really returning to the 60’s dumb Bat-concept?! Between nerds, then, a strange kind of absurd self-harm happens: actually, having such a name to launch the Superman/Batman movie is a bless.
Ben was the best top #1 in Warner/DC list: they have looked for him for years, and in fact we now have a superhero movie’s dream team for Man of Steel 2. If Bats was a beginner (like the Man of Steel Supes), then letting him in the hands of a soap opera young thug or an unknown bodybuilder would have been a damnation; but, in this way, an acknowledged grown star is involved, a passion-driven and charming star for a mature, pivotal and crucial role. There was no other way. Indeed, not even a fantastic 40 years old “rookie” - Richard Armitage, Jon Hamm, Gerard Butler are some examples – would have been able to bear such a weight!
Casting Affleck as Batman is an artistic and commercial flash of genius. No discussion. If not, come on let’s get back to the Human Torch as Cap! Or Jessica Alba as the Invisible Woman. Or a dumb ass-face as Spider-Man. Or the sequence of three absolutely different actors as the Hulk… I could go on for hours. If there is only one thing in which Zack Snyder is matter-of-factly great – and in my opinion there isn’t just one – is the casting matter. The choice of a super-popular star (for many, interesting reasons) like Ben Affleck for a 41 years old Batman is amazing, thrilling, crazy genius. Seriously.
But, if in the end shooting at Zack is just fashion, no news. And no news that here you all count me out, on principle.
Ben Affleck? He is a Master of Hollywood; a complete, celebrated, all-powerful author. Now, he gives himself at the service of the Batman comics. We should be so, so happy... About Argo I wrote: “The Hollywoodian part of the story is a little fake and stuffed, but the Iranian one was difficult and is delivered nearly spotless”. Good old Ben was the Iranian one and only hero, dealing with the dumbness of simple, lost, evil-defeated citizens; he had to bring them to deliverance through his own courage, convinction and leadership. Using only his shagged magnetism and superior knowledge, and charm too, to give them safety. Leading the group, he alone, to an impossible goal - a goal he had to make look achievable for the humble, common humanity. This is the Batman. Perfect. Oscar.
